This pendant is set with a good sized black opal from Lighning Ridge. which is 1.9cm long and 1.2cm wide. It has a blue background with blue and turquoise flashes and bands. In the centre there is a natural dark blue spot, which makes this a so-called picture opal. The choices were to cut the stone into two smaller bits, eliminating the dark spot, and ending up with two elegant but quite small stones, or to leave it as it has naturally grown and have a large opal, with just a slightly more rustic appearance. We chose the latter, and I set it upon a crescent of hammered silver in the Arts and Crafts style, which in my opinion suits this stone best. The result is a relatively chunky pendant, which is 4.2cm long, 2.3cm wide ans weighs 6.68 grams. The back of the pendnat is hallmarked for Edinburgh 2015. The pendant comes with an 18″ (45cm) Sterling silver snake chain and will be sent gift boxed.
