This pendant contains a good black Australian opal from the Lightning Ridge mines in New South Wales. The stone is 1.3cm long and 6mm wide. It has a blue-grey background with strong flashes of blue and in some light conditions green or even turquoise. I made a timeless, symmetrical setting for it, mainly of Sterling silver, but I added a highlight in 9 Ct gold. The entire pendant is 4.1cm high and 2.9cm wide. It weighs a respectable 6.72 grams, so it is relatively chunky, yet elegant enough to show off the stone to its advantage. The back carries a hallmark for both metals from the Edinburgh assay office for 2017. The pendant comes with an 18″ (45cm) Sterling silver snake chain and will, of course, be sent gift-boxed.
