UK Size. W/X……USA Size. 11.25
This is a large fitting heavy vintage man’s/gent’s gold keeper ring.
The band is stamped “375” for solid 9 carat gold, bears full hallmarks for London 1956 and the maker’s mark of “Y. S”.
Across its surface are set 10 x 2mm faceted clear stones. It was sold to me as being diamonds, but I cannot get them to test as such and am therefore selling the ring as being set with white sapphire/topaz or similar. The head of the ring is curved, approx. 20mm long and 11mm wide. .
The ring is a UK Size. W/X…..USA Size. 11.25 and weighs a hefty 11.86 grams.
It has been polished and sonically cleaned, is in excellent overall condition, with no damage/repair or obvious signs of wear.
This style of ring is known as a “keeper” ring, although nobody is entirely sure why. Possibly an expensive wedding/engagement band for the wealthy in the 1700’s, or a ring to be placed on the finger to stop other rings falling off (which seems unlikely, as it is such a large piece itself.)
