This is an unusual and very well made antique bar brooch, which is made of 9 carat gold and is decorated with a “spider”.
The spider’s legs are made of gold, and its body is an amethyst of 5mm length and 3mm width. The entire brooch is 7.1cm long. The bar is slightly tapered and is 3mm wide at the ends, 2mm wide in the middle. The spider in the centre is 1.5cm high.
The back has the old Victorian or Edwardian stamp of “9CT” for solid 9 carat gold, with the retaining pin made of white metal. The catch is an antique non-safty catch, which nonetheless holds the brooch firmly in place.
Difficult to date precisely, but I would think Circa.1900 or thereabouts.
The brooch weighs 1.73 grams and is in excellent condition. It comes in its original box.
