This is a superb set, consisting of a pendant and chain and a matching brooch. The pendant and the brooch are made in the baroque style with ornate, curvy lines and are set with garnets and mother of pearl. The pendant has a piece of mother of pearl in the centre, which is 1cm long and 7mm wide, and two garnets on the sides and one below it. These garnets have a diameter of 3mm. Three further garnets act as danglers. They are drop-shaped and are 8mm long. The entire pendant, including the hanger, is 4cm long and 2.4cm wide. The silver chain is 42cm long and has an antique, cylindrical catch. The brooch is made in a very similar style, also with three danglers, but is set with five pieces of mother of pearl and three garnets. The brooch is 3.5cm long and 3.2cm wide. The catch in the back is an old Victorian non-safety catch, which nonetheless holds the pin firmly in place. There is no hallmark, probably because in those days the stamps were so large that there was nowhere to place them. But we tested both items and found them to be Sterling silver. Everything is in excellent condition. It is a gorgeous set that bears witness to the great patience and crafstsmanship of the Victorian jeweller who made it.
