This is a beautiful vintage necklace of the kind you don’t come across every day. It is set with alternate treble strings of freshwater pearls and irregular-shaped, polished turqoises with a gold ball between each set of pearls and the next turquoise. This is a gorgeous and ingenious combination of shapes and colours, whereby it’s the gold balls that lift this necklace into a different category. Without them, it would have a clean and fresh appearance only, but the gold adds warmth and lends an air of sophistication to the stones, which have been left entirely in their natural shapes. The 9 turquoises are just over 1cm long, and the 10 treble strings of pearls are 2cm long each. The hook end of the lovely catch is fully hallmarked for 9 Ct gold, London 1971, and since the catch forms an integral part of the chain, the hallmarking must necessarily refer to the balls also. There are 20 balls with a diameter of 3mm each, which, together with the catch, constitute a generous gold content. The entire chain is 16″ (41cm) long, which means that it sits relativley close to the neck, which perfectly suits most styles of cleavages, but might be too tight for ladies with stronger necks. The necklace will be sent gift boxed, and shipping is free.
