This is a vintage hat pin, which I would date to the 1920s or early 30s. The top is made of silver, stamped 935, which is actually better than Sterling silver (925), although there is an additional stamp of “Sterling” on the back. The actual pin is made of steel. The top shows a dragonfly or similar insect with 4 wings. The wings are set with clear stones, the body is a blue stone and the eyes are made of red stones. The ornametal surround is also set with numerous clear stones. I have no way of telling what kind of stones they are or whether they are paste. The clear stones are certainly not diamonds. The hat pin is 3.7cm long and 2.5cm across the wings. It is hinged so that it can be set at various angles to the hat. Everything is in excellent condition, a stunning piece for collectors or for someone who wants to have it converted into a pendant.
