This is a lot of 2 x shaped and polished, ready to mount or display, natural Andamooka opals from the mines of Australia.
One is oval shape, domed and polished on both sides, is 17mm high, 11mm wide, 4.50mm thick and of 7.25 carats. The other is a freeform shape, polished on one side, 23mm long, 13mm wide, 4mm thick and of 11.70 carats.
These opals are not of the quality from other areas in Australia and are often boiled in sugar to darken the background to enhance the colour plays. The oval opal has a pale grey background, with muted pin-fire flashes of green, yellow and pink across its entire surface. The freeform opal has a pale grey background colour with muted pin-fire flashes of lime green across its entire surface.
Not a great stones, but would make interesting pieces of jewellery or kept as examples of this type of opal.
